From Episode 146 on the Medicine Feed. With Dr. Laurent Garosi.

Your textbook will give you a long list of potential metabolic causes for seizures, but neurologist Dr. Laurent Garosi says that, in his experience, there are the only a handful of non-neurological causes that he sees fairly commonly in seizure patients that are normal in between seizure episodes:
-
The immature dog or cat with hepatic encephalopathy due to a portosystemic shunt.
-
The dog with hypoglycemia, especially due to an insulinoma or an insulin-like tumour.
-
Occasionally polycythaemia.
-
Hypertension in cats, which he feels is an under-diagnosed cause of seizures in cats.
